RIP CURL GIRLS FESTIVAL UNDERWAY IN SPAIN

SANTANDER, Spain (Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007)- The Rip Curl Girls Festival, Santander, Stop No. 4 of 7 on the ASP Women's World Tour, will get underway at 08h15 (local time) this morning with all six heats of Round 1 to be completed.

One-metre (3-foot) waves are peeling across the sand banks of Liencres beach this morning and with an incoming tide, conditions are expected to improve throughout the morning.

First heat in the water sees former World No.2 Melanie Redman-Carr (AUS) pitted against former ASP World Champion and current World No. 6 Sofia Mulanovich (PER) and World No. 10 Melanie Bartels (HAW).

All six heats of Round 1 will be completed this morning, with the possibility of completing the two heats of Round 2 later in the day.

The waiting period for the Rip Curl Girls Festival extends from September 4- 9, 2007 and needs just two full days of surfing to be completed.
